Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. is continuing to stand by Donald Trump's presidential candidacy -- but some of his students are rebelling.
Per The Hill, a student group called Liberty United Against Trump issued a statement decrying Falwell's endorsement, while lamenting the way that Trump has come to be associated with their Christian university.
"In the months since Jerry Falwell Jr. endorsed him, Donald Trump has been inexorably associated with Liberty University," the students write. "We are Liberty students who are disappointed with President Falwell's endorsement and are tired of being associated with one of the worst presidential candidates in American history."
They then go on to note that Falwell's endorsement isn't just a stain upon Liberty University, but on their religion itself.
"Associating any politician with Christianity is damaging to the Gospel of Jesus Christ," they write. "But Donald Trump is not just any politician. He has made his name by maligning others and bragging about his sins. Not only is Donald Trump a bad candidate for president, he is actively promoting the very things that we are Christians ought to oppose."
The students in particular slammed Falwell for defending Trump's remarks about grabbing women's genitals, which they said trivialized the very real problem is sexual assault.
"'We're all sinners,' Falwell told the media, as if sexual assault is a shoulder shrugging issue rather than an atrocity which plagues college campuses across America, including our own," they write.
