The Trump campaign has been on everyone's radar in recent weeks — more than ever — as the Republican nominee is singlehandedly sinking his campaign and taking the GOP with him.
Donald Trump has been sending out his surrogates to clean up his messes as his new "unshackled" rhetoric viciously targets the "rigged" media, election system, and alleged voter fraud as the causes of his failing campaign.
On Monday morning, Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway pushed that narrative along. She said, "The fix is in for Mrs. Clinton when it comes to the mainstream media."
She continued on to mention the possibility of voter fraud — a baseless and irresponsible claim that Trump himself has been mobilizing as the election approaches.
Republican strategist Susan Del Percio spoke on MSNBC about the Trump campaign's strategy of stoking fears of a rigged election. She said, "There are many responsible Republicans out there that believe in a transition in power and that you have to accept the election results."
She continued, "There is no proof, as you said, of some overwhelming claim that everyone's out to get Donald Trump ... that's unique to him."
Del Percio suggested that this narrative — along with Trump preparing for a loss as Clinton talks "in a way that she's getting prepared to govern" — is going to hurt down ballot GOP races this fall.
Moveon.org Senior Advisor Karine Jean-Pierre added that as both campaigns race to 270 on the electoral map, "He is collapsing with that map."
When asked, then, what she would do if she were advising Trump moving forward, Del Percio said with a laugh, "There's a difference between what type of advice you can give to Donald Trump and what Donald Trump will actually do. He said he's unshackled."
She suggested his campaign get back to focusing on the issues, rather than on Trump himself.
