Buttercream Bakery owner Tiffany MacIsaac's shop made President Donald Trump's inauguration cake, which was ordered to look exactly like former President Obama's 2012 cake. The cake was made for Friday's "A Salute To Our Armed Services Inaugural Ball" at the National Building Museum, DCist reported.
MacIsaac told the Washington Post that the client who made the order brought a photo of Obama's cake and asked for an exact replica. She added that the client asked for a cake that couldn't actually be eaten, "It's just a styrofoam cake. It's not for eating," with the exception of a three-inch slice of cake at the bottom.
But if there's one thing the new president may not appreciate about his cake, it's that Buttercream Bakery announced in an Instagram post that they were donating the profits to the Human Rights Campaign. HRC has taken a firm stand against the Trump administration, calling him "Unfit for the Presidency."
The bakery wrote in their post, "Best part is all the profits are being donated to @humanrightscampaign, one of our favorite charities who we have loved working with over the years."
"Because basic human rights are something every man, woman and child~ straight, gay or the rainbow in between~ deserve!" they added.
Buttercream also wrote to the original cake's designer, Duff Goldman, calling him a "class act." Goldman defended Buttercream's decision to donate the funds to LGBTQ rights advocacy, writing, "Cake decorators borrow and are inspired by each other all the time. It's how we keep this industry fresh, relevant, and moving forward."
