An American bystander was caught in the crossfire in the moments following the attacks on London Bridge on Saturday.
According to NBC News, the wounded American was expected to survive despite the injuries.
"I got people to start evacuating inside from our little garden that we have ... and got people to come into the bar and to go into toilets, hide under tables and hide in our cellar where we keep all our stock," said 20-year-old Fabio Lamas, who works at a pub when he saw men in body armor with knives.
Lamas explained that the American man was hit by the gunfire as he was standing near a window with friends inside the pub. His friends told Lamas that they were doctors living in the city and were from either New Jersey or New York.
Bar workers said that the man was conscious but it was obvious that his friends were in shock.
"He was bleeding through his eye," Lamas recalled. "I went to get the first-aid kit and I started speaking to his friends and to try and calm them down."
Seven were killed and nearly 50 were injured over the weekend in the attacks.
