A pickup truck driver from Peterborough, Ontario, is facing assault charges after he was caught on camera viciously beating a 74-year-old bicyclist with a small club.
The Toronto Star reports that 65-year-old David Fox was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon after a bystander filmed him clubbing a man that he had pinned to the ground after exiting his truck.
The video of the beating begins with the woman recording it running over to the two men. As she approaches, Fox repeatedly strikes the man in the head with a club.
“I’m filming all of this," the woman tells Fox, who proceeds to claim that he "tried to walk away" from the bicyclist but was purportedly given no choice but to attack him.
After seeing the woman arrive on the scene, Fox quickly gets into his truck and flees the scene.
"The sound of the club hitting him was sickening," the woman, who did not want to be identified, told a local newspaper after the incident. "Blood was flying off it."
The cyclist was taken to Peterborough Regional Hospital, where he was treated and subsequently released. Police arrested Fox roughly one hour after the incident occurred.
