MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Monday said that President Donald Trump was scared the ongoing Russia investigation would finally catch up to him.
Trump blasted Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, as his son-in-law Jared Kushner appeared before Congress to talk about meetings with Russian operatives. Trump also criticized his own attorney general for not investigating his former rival, Hillary Clinton.
"Our president sounds beleaguered and frightened this morning," Scarborough tweeted in response. "You can sense his fear in every terrified tweet. Justice must be closing in."
Kushner, who serves as Trump's senior adviser, released an 11-page statement Monday morning ahead of his hearing in the Senate Intelligence Committee. In the document, he insisted he "did not collude" with Russian operatives. But the statement also revealed that hackers had attempted to use Trump's unreleased tax returns as blackmail.
