Kelly doesn't want Jared Kushner to get security clearance waiver -- but he won't quit if Trump gives him one

White House chief of staff John Kelly doesn't want President Donald Trump to grant his son-in-law a waiver that would allow him to continue accessing classified information without a permanent security clearance.

However, Kelly also reportedly isn't going to to anything to stop Trump if he overrides his recommendation and gives Kushner a waiver anyway.

Politico reports that Kelly "does not plan to recommend to the president that he grant Kushner a waiver, but he is unlikely to resign if Trump ultimately decides to do so."

Trump on Friday said that it would be up to Kelly as to whether Kushner was granted a security clearance waiver, although he also defended his son-in-law and said his work was integral to bringing peace to the Middle East.

Kushner has been able to access classified information throughout his tenure at the White House despite the fact that he has not been granted permanent security clearance -- and according to Politico, the White House security officer is "unlikely to green light a permanent security clearance for Kushner any time soon as a result of information received from the FBI" this past fall.
