Political commentator and co-host of "The View" Meghan McCain can't figure out what Ivanka Trump is doing in the West Wing of the White House.
McCain talked about the first daughter during a Politico Podcast interview this week, asking what her job is and questioning her accomplishments.
“The part that I find confusing about [Ivanka] is that she works in the administration; she has an office in the White House, and she has claimed not to be a political person,” McCain said. “You’re an advisor to your father, who also happens to be the president, and you’re not a political person? I don’t like things like that.”
McCain, the daughter of a famous politician herself, frequently touts her experience as support family to an official and the unique responsibilities of the role. So, the comment didn't come without a full understanding of Ivanka's complicated position.
“I just kind of wish I would hear more from her on all politics,” she said, also mentioning Trump's signature issue, paid family leave.
McCain has also been quick to defend the first daughter in defending her father, which the senator's daughter said she too would do.
McCain also noted that she doesn't believe the Trumps would ever attack her father again the way they did during the 2016 campaign. At that point, Trump insulted Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for being captured. His daughter doesn't think it would happen, not because Trump has become a more thoughtful leader, but because it wouldn't be politically adventagous to the White House.
“I don’t believe he would go there again,” McCain said. “I don’t think at this point in his administration it would be beneficial to him in any way.”
Though, that hasn't stopped the president in the past.
