Photo emerges of Trump-loving South Carolina candidate in blackface -- and he fails to apologize

A photo has surfaced showing a white South Carolina political candidate in black face. Brant Tomlinson, who's running for Kershaw County Council, appears in black make-up in a Halloween photo from 2008, reports WACH.

Tomlinson issued a terse statement in which he cast blame on his political opponents and the toxic culture of the modern political process—but failed to apologize for his poor judgement.

"One of my opponents has apparently paid an antagonist to distribute a photograph in an effort to misrepresent my reputation," he wrote. He goes on to explain that the costume paid homage to one of his all-time favorite movies, Cool Runnings.

"It is unfortunate that local candidates have now resorted to the same type of toxic smear campaigns that have infected the political discourse at state and national level."

Based on his Twitter feed, Tomlinson appears to be a passionate Trump supporter, retweeting Trump "soldiers" and others who promise to Make America Great Again.
