British diver Vern Unsworth, who earlier this year helped lead the rescue of a dozen Thai children and their soccer coach after they got trapped in a cave, is preparing legal action against Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who smeared him as a pedophile on Twitter.
Buzzfeed News reports that Unsworth and his legal team are "preparing a civil complaint for libel" against Musk, who infamously referred to the diver as "pedo guy" after he dismissed the Tesla CEO's proposal to use a submarine to rescue the children as a "publicity stunt."
Even though Musk last month formally apologized to Unsworth for his unsubstantiated attack, the Tesla boss went back on Twitter this week to once again taunt the man who was instrumental in rescuing trapped children.
"You don’t think it’s strange [Unsworth] hasn’t sued me?" Musk asked. "He was offered free legal services."
But according to Buzzfeed, Unsworth's lawyers have already served Musk notice that they're prepared to sue him.
"You published through three different tweets to your twenty-two million followers that Mr. Unsworth engages in the sexual exploitation of Thai children, and you did so at a time when he was working to save the lives of twelve Thai children," Unsworth’s lawyer, L. Lin Wood, wrote in a letter to Musk. "You did so without any basis. According to a subsequent Twitter post, you did so out of anger."
