The National Football League asked superstar Rihanna to play the Superbowl halftime show, but the singer declined, US Weekly reported Thursday.
“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” according to an industry insider.
She reportedly declined the opportunity to stand in solidarity with former NFL quarterback and civil rights leader Colin Kaepernick.
"They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance," the insider revealed.
Unable to get Rihanna, the NFL offered the gig to the band Maroon 5.
