Florida Gov. Rick Scott suspended Broward County Elections Superintendent Brenda Snipes on Friday evening before her slated early retirement in January -- and allegedly did so to "punish" her.

Politico reported that, according to a person close to the matter, Scott made the decision to suspend Snipes ahead of her Jan. 4 retirement date because he felt she should be punished for "running such a bad shop for so long."

“It was a long time coming,”  a source familiar with Scott’s process and decision told Politico. “Snipes had it coming to her.”

The outgoing governor and newly-elected senator is replacing Snipes with Pete Antonacci, his longtime "fixer" who's been appointed to three other positions, the report noted.
