On Tuesday, President Donald Trump re-upped his attacks on John McCain, berating the dead Senator for voting against legislation designed to gut the Affordable Care Act.

Trump's criticisms of McCain have drawn condemnation from a handful of Republicans. But the GOP leadership has failed to denounce Trump's comments, despite Sen. Lindsay Graham claiming to have been McCain's best friend.

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hailed McCain as a hero on Twitter.

"Today and every day I miss my good friend John McCain," he wrote.

"It was a blessing to serve alongside a rare patriot and genuine American hero in the Senate. His memory continues to remind me every day that our nation is sustained by the sacrifices of heroes."

McConnell yet to publicly try and rein in the President's remarks.
