    We had an a problem last year with people, mostly minorities, causing car accidents on purpose for the insurance money. And illegals driving to endanger as they try to avoid border patrol and police in general has to be considered a real issue.

    But you are correct in saying that we have to look at the how and why, and correcting that would help the situation.

    Lamar Smith is the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee.

    Outside of the usual articles from Bloggers like myself and other opponents of illegal immigration, here is a very eye-opening correspondence by an insider of the Washington beltway. While others fudge the truth or downright lie or release rancid propaganda to the masses. Here are some bitter truths that this Representative from Texas is availing us of the ugly truth and the calamitous situation sending us into a black bottomless pit of American bankruptcy.

    Rep. Lamar Smith states:

    President Obama and Congressional Democrats have been talking about giving amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. Tax Day seems like a good time to examine the impact that such a policy would have on your wallet.

    Start with education. Using the average annual American public school elementary and secondary education costs, the Federation for American Immigration Reform has estimated that the total cost of K-12 education for illegal immigrant minors and the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants is $28.6 billion a year.

    Then there’s health care. If illegal immigrants are covered in the health care bill (there is not a strong verification mechanism to ensure they won’t get benefits), it would increase the bill’s costs between $10-$30 billion. Of course, it won’t matter if illegal immigrants receive amnesty since the new law requires health care coverage for everyone.

    Social Security is another area of great concern. Claims by amnesty advocates that illegal immigration can “save” Social Security are false.

    Last year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) ran the numbers at my request. Here’s what they found: For a single 25-year old male with very low earnings, today’s value of his and his employer’s contributions to the Trust Fund will fall $15,596 short of the value of the Social Security retirement benefits he will eventually receive. A single female will receive $20,936 more in benefits than she pays into Social Security. If the immigrant is married but the sole wage-earner, the couple will eventually drain the Trust Fund by $52,460; if the immigrant is married to another very low earner, the drain on the trust fund will be $39,037. The legalization of one million illegal immigrant couples who work for very low wages would be a $101 billion blow to taxpayers. And amnesty for all illegal immigrants would multiply this figure many times!

    When it comes to taxes, amnesty supporters like to say that illegal immigrants will pay their “fair share” of taxes after being granted amnesty. This is deceptive.

    Low-skilled workers often pay no taxes and receive a check from the Internal Revenue Service in the form of the Earned Income Tax Credit. Putting illegal immigrants on the IRS rolls will actually cost the federal government money.

    Since most illegal immigrants have less than a high school education and have well below average incomes, even those illegal immigrants who pay taxes pay far less in taxes than they (and their families) consume in taxpayer-supported benefits. Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation found that the average immigrant household headed by an immigrant without a high school degree receives over $19,000 more in total government benefits each year than it pays in federal, state and local taxes!

    But the impact goes far beyond these direct costs.

    There are nearly 16 million Americans out of work, and about 8 million jobs are held by illegal immigrants. By simply enforcing immigration laws already on the books, we could create millions of job opportunities for American citizens and legal immigrants who played by the rules and entered the U.S. the right way.

    Instead, the Obama administration has all but abandoned worksite enforcement efforts. Administrative arrests are down 87 percent; criminal arrests of employees are down 83 percent; criminal arrests of employers are down 73 percent; the number of criminal indictments are down 86 percent; and the number of criminal convictions is down 83 percent since 2008. This insults unemployed and underemployed American workers who need the jobs held by illegal immigrants.

    The hit is on your wallet! Illegal immigrants are a fiscal drain on American taxpayers. And the Obama administration’s policies only make it worse.

    actually (and note that i'd rather eat iguana vomit than ever actually *vote* for mccain – or anyone like him), a few years ago, there were several organized rings of insurance fraudsters who were busted for doing exactly that: intentionally causing accidents. for insurance money, y'know.

    they traveled in packs of three vehicles, and would pick out a mark (nice new car, older driver, etc.) and box their car in, then swoop in – while the car in front (usually loaded with a family – kids, etc.) downshifted hard, causing a rear-end collision.

    People in insurance investigations know that illegals make accidents on purpose so they can collect monies. And lots of them cross the border with that purpose alone in mind. Too many people are disgusted that their auto insurance payments are actually covering the damage and destruction caused by all unlicensed drivers, often driving dangerous and uninspected vehicles all over the US. A comprehensive sale tax on gasoline and diesel sufficient to cover the real cost to us would mean the end of rip-off car insurance rates. Let the users of the highway system subsidize its costs directly based on usage.     If you read what he says, Lamar Smith is simply attacking low-wage workers. It has nothing to do with immigrants, illegal or otherwise. Low-wage workers will eventually get more social security than they put in — that was how it was designed. It's a safety net, not a savings plan.

    What is relevant, but no one wants to mention, is that illegals right now DO pay into social security (it's withheld from their wages) but since they do not have a valid social security number they will never get the benefits. So right now they are helping – they are exploited to help – balance the books. If they become legal, if that exploitation stops, then they will get benefits from the fund they have been paying into all along.

    I think you need some data. Yes, there is a well-known scam in which people (not necessarily illegals) fake an accident to get money. Is there any data which suggests this is more common among illegal immigrants than among citizens? (Remember, illegals will have far more difficulty using the court and insurance systems without getting deported).

    Second, illegals do NOT get back the social security money they paid — they do not have a valid social security number. Yes, they do benefit from our laws which say no one will be turned away from an emergency room because they are poor.     I have lived in AZ since 1985 and consider myself a moderate. The first thing I want to say is, let me tell you about the drivers in AZ. They are TERRIBLE. They come from all over the U.S., hell, all over the GLOBE, and bring their crappy driving laws (or lack thereof) with them. Sure some of the illegals are dangerous drivers, but hell, there are TONS of dangerous drivers out here! The Second thing I want to say pertains to the illegals. When the economy was booming out here a few years ago, 1500 new homes a month were being built and not a PEEP was made about the illegals because everyone loved the cheap labor. He also states that moving forward it would be very unfortunate and sad of racial profiling occurred due to the proposed law. I think that McCain neither endorsed nor dismissed the law.     I don't know about Arizona and I don't know about now, but South Florida had an alleged problem similar in the early eighties exposed by the Miami Herald, or so I recall. Don't prejudge those who say there is a problem as biased until it plays out. It's allegedly bigoted to do that.
    Reason I recall was that I saw a professional acquaintance's name mentioned in the Central Florida press. The problem involved an alleged ring of professionals who allegedly made a living representing, litigating, evaluating, and treating injuries from alleged immigrants' alleged accidents.

    I know someone who lived in San Diego, and exactly what McCain is explaining happened to her when she was getting off a freeway exit. It may not be as common as McCain explains it to be, but it happens. So he's not getting senile (and, btw, accusing him of such is blatant libel), people. This is age discrimination. He's doing fine, but things are going crazy in AZ right now and it's a lot to handle for every public figure. Plus, he's got the race against Hayworth right now, so he's campaigning.      Screw the illegals and their kids. Who really cares about them. They can go back to whatever country they live in and earn their right to be here. I don't care if they are poor, I don't care if they are hungry. I don't care if they can't get medical attention. It really isn't my problem. You know why? Because I am a citizen and I can't get medical care, sometimes I can't afford to eat, and yes I am poor. I do not get government assistance, oh, i'm white, I don't deserve it. I do no want it any way, I would rather work and earn my keep and not violate the law doing so. I do not want to read my menus in spanish or have to learn spanish to go to Miami or San Francisco. I want to speak english everywhere I go in my country. I do not care for the illegal day workers eyeballing my wife in walmart like she is a piece of meat because they want an american woman instead of their stank foreign women. I am tired of it, tired of the liberals who feel sorry for them. Who gives a shit about them, take care of your own first before you give a handout to everybody else, do you not care about your own people? Apparently you would rather give to everyone else before your own. Would you feed your kids first or the illegals living next door and make your children starve. I think you would feed your own first. And as far as the mexican president trashing the new Arizona Law. Really who the hell is he to comment? Get your own country straightened out before you make any comment about our business. It;s none of yours, shut it.      I personally dont care if they racial profile or not. Theres how many illegal mexicans and how many illegal of other races? yeah exactly If you need a figure why dont you go here so you can see the breakdown. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_the...) Why wouldnt you racially profile. Bottom line is if all states do this and the illegals leave willingly, no one will have to be racially profiled.      They intentionally cause accidents to get insurance payouts. That is why insurance rates are so damn high in AZ. Not to mention the billions of dollars spent on their health-care, their education. We treat them better than our own homeless citizens, many of whom are Vets.
