Greg Abbott shredded by Texas judge for giving Trump his voter fraud 'audit': 'He caved in minutes!'
While Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) was on television over the weekend, he proclaimed the intentions of his party to host an audit of the 2020 election. It appears that was news to election officials, who had no idea.
DFW's CBS outlet reported Monday that no one seems to know what the next steps are, what the plan will be or when things will move forward.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins attacked Abbott on Monday, saying, "Trump demanded it, he caved in minutes later."
Jenkins noted that he also reached out to the Secretary of State's office, and, "They weren't able to tell us anything as far as what they wanted."
Bruce Sherbet, the Collin County Elections Administrator, also made it clear that they have no idea what's going on.
"Collin County has not been updated on the schedule or processes for the audit yet but we are prepared to assist the state in any way needed," Sherbet said in a statement.
Similarly, Republican Tarrant County judge, Glen Whitley, said that he was shocked he hadn't heard anything about it until Abbott mentioned it on television Sunday.
"The Secretary of State's office just said, we'll get back to you. We're in the middle of the plan. And when you know, when we have more details, we'll get back with you. At the same time, we welcome the opportunity to assist and do whatever we can we feel comfortable with the election," he said.
Former President Donald Trump has been pushing the Texas audit to continue to undermine confidence in the Texas election and justify the voter suppression laws passed.
Arizona's Republican election audit ultimately found that Trump lost the state by 300-plus more votes than originally thought. It's unclear if Texas will similarly show Trump got fewer votes than anticipated in 2020.
Kevin McCarthy has his old words thrown back in his face after trying to stop the government from paying its bills
On Monday, following the refusal of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to provide any Republican votes in the House for funding the federal government and raising the debt ceiling, assistant House Speaker Katherine Clark (D-MA) reminded the GOP leader of his own words six years ago, when Republicans controlled the House and did not want to own a debt default themselves.
"When the United States makes promises, it keeps them, which is why the House voted today to avoid the threat of a debt default," wrote McCarthy in the tweet posted by Clark, first flagged by Newsweek.
The debt ceiling is an overall limit on the amount of money the United States can borrow — although not, crucially, a limit on the amount it can spend, meaning that going over it would trigger a catastrophic default on money already spent, which could lead to a global economic shockwave and millions of Americans --including troops and retirees -- having to go without federal payments.
Republicans are refusing to contribute any votes to raising the debt ceiling, despite having raised it numerous times themselves, which could force Democrats to find a way to get around the filibuster to pass a debt ceiling increase alone.
New court documents paint a 'dark picture' of MAGA rioters' violent fixation on Nancy Pelosi: reporter
NBC 4 Washington reporter Scott MacFarlane on Monday said that recent court documents surrounding Capitol rioter cases are painting an "increasingly dark picture" of many rioters' violent fixation on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
MacFarlane points to a newly unsealed superseding indictment of one Capitol rioter whom prosecutors say openly bragged about being "the first to sit in Nancy Pelosi's chair" after breaking into the Capitol building, while also declaring Pelosi a "traitor."
Another rioter who is scheduled to have a plea hearing, this week, was allegedly caught on video saying that they were "looking for Nancy to shoot her in the frigging brain."
He also pointed to MAGA rioter Pauline Bauer, who was caught on camera in the Capitol saying, "This is where we find Nancy Pelosi, bring that f*cking b*tch out here now."
Other court documents show accused MAGA rioters seemingly ratting out fellow rioters for saying they wanted to defecate on Pelosi's desk.
