Rep. Paul Ryan discusses the Republican alternative budget in the Wall Street Journal today, and I must say, it is very close to being something that could serve as the foundation for a series of ideas which could become a budget.
It has many of the hallmarks of something which would be considered a budget. For instance: statements. Also: numbers. Although the numbers are far more sporadic than the statements. It also mentions the fact that there is a theoretical budget which exists and to which he might be referring, which I personally think is huge.
Reading the meager specifics of the plan, it mainly sounds like Republicans are proposing to do the things they always do, but this time in opposition to an out of control government rather than, you know, in support of it. Which is a step, but it's sort of like the step of running your terrible offense when you're down 21 points rather than running your terrible offense when you're up 7 points.
