Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said Thursday it was "absurd" that Republicans claimed they were trying to create jobs.

"They're doing nothing to create jobs," he told MSNBC's Al Sharpton. "They're obstructing every single effort out there."

Senate Republicans and two members of the Democratic caucus killed the Rebuild America Act on Thursday afternoon, which would have provided $60 billion for infrastructure projects. Democrats needed 60 votes to break a Republican filibuster against the legislation.

"All they have is there old mantra, more tax breaks for the rich and large corporations," Sanders added.

Sanders said Republicans had learned nothing from the recession, which he blamed in part on the deregulation of Wall Street.
