A man and a woman were injured during the large "Occupy Oakland" protest on Wednesday night after being struck by a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan.

ABC7 reported that the two protesters were hit by the car in downtown Oakland. The driver of the car apparently tried to drive through the crowd as they were marching in the street near the intersection of 11th and Broadway.

Several witnesses told the Oakland Tribune that a demonstrator banged on the hood of the Mercedes as he attempted to turn, provoking the driver to step on the gas.

Both victims were rushed to a local hospital by an ambulance.

After the incident, rumors began to swirl on Twitter that one of the protesters had died, but their injuries were not life threatening.

Police allowed the driver to leave the scene after interviewing him and several witnesses, according to the San Fransciso Chronicle.

Aerial footage of the protest captured part of the incident.
