Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich's plan to create a moon base has finally been put to music.
In a parody of Ernie's 1978 classicSesame Street song, puppet Newt Gingrich sings that he wants "to live on the moon."
"I would like to look down at the Earth from above / Find a younger and hotter moon lady to love," the grey-haired puppet croons. "And with her as my queen, we'd be the rulers of space / In my new palatial moon base."
"Well, there'll be some new laws on my moon / So, you're all going to play by my rules," the song continues. "Gay marriage will not be allowed / And no welfare or public schools."
"America owns the whole moon / We conquered it in 69 / Sorry, China, but that's how it works / So, it's pretty much rightfully mine."
The exclusive Funny or Die parody comes less than a week after the real Newt Gingrich said that if elected, he would create a moon base by the end of his second term.
"I said when we got — I think the number is 13,000 — when we have 13,000 Americans living on the moon, they can petition to become a state," the candidate explained to voters on Florida's Space Coast.
“I accept the charge that I am an American and Americans are instinctively grandiose because we believe in a bigger future!” he exclaimed. “I want you to help me both in Florida and across the country so that you can someday say you were here the day it was announce that of course we’d have commercial space and near space. Of course we’d have a man colony on the moon that flew an American flag.”
