In what could be seen as an attempt to head off the backlash he is currently facing, Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website apologizing to Georgetown University Law Student Sandra Fluke for his vicious, personal attacks on her this week.
Talking Points Memo's Livewire blog quotes that the right wing radio entertainer as saying, "My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices."
The bulk of the statement is given over to further moralizing about "personal accountability and responsibility," as well as a dig at President Obama, but Limbaugh does devote four lines to Fluke for choosing "the wrong words in my analogy of the situation."
Advertisers have fled The Rush Limbaugh Show in recent days, prompted by a wave of complaints from consumers. Democratic legislators have drafted a statement condemning Limbaugh's remarks and House Speaker John Boehner has called the attacks "inappropriate."
