There clearly were no signs of Donald Trump backing away from his birther beliefs Tuesday morning despite his increased presence in the campaign of Republican presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
Appearing on CNBC's Squawk Box, The Apprentice host continued his very peculiar campaign of having doubt over President Barack Obama's citizenship and demanded that he release his college transcripts.
"I walk down the street and people are screaming please don't give that up," Trump said. "A publisher came out last week and had a statement about Obama given to them by Obama while he was doing a book as a young man a number of years in the 90's, born in Kenya, and raised in Indonesia. Now the publisher said, 'Oh, we made a mistake.' That's not the way life works. He's a young man doing a book and he said what he believed to be the truth. So there's a whole lot of things. His mother was never in the hospital, they don't know which hospital it was, his grandmother said he was born in Kenya."
"It all wouldn't matter, expect of you're born in a foreign country, you are not allowed to be president. So you know this is a minor detail. I'm not fanning flames, this is something that came out last week, a lot of people are questioning his birth certificate."
Trump went on to say that "the press just doesn't want to cover" the issue, despite the Obama administration providing a short form birth certificate to the public in April 2011 that the press covered extensively.
Never one to back down, Trump also hit back at George Will's recent stinging criticism of him, saying the ABC This Week pundit "bombed" a speech at Trump's Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida years ago. He also tweeted on Sunday that Will was "may be the dumbest (and most overrated) political commentator of all time."
Trump will host a campaign fundraiser with Romney Tuesday evening in Las Vegas. The former Massachusetts governor continues to support Trump, calling labeling him as "good people" Monday.
