Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is already pre-blaming Democrats if health care costs go up because the Supreme Court strikes down all or part of President Barack Obama’s health care reform law on Thursday.
Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday asked the Minnesota congresswoman what Republicans were “going to say to all of those people under the people age of 26 who have been thrown off their parents policies?”
Democrats “are going to trot forth X,Y and Z, you know, sad sob story of individuals who can’t find insurance now because the Supreme Court has overturned Obamacare,” Ingraham predicted. “Isn’t it incumbent on Republicans to already have factored that in?”
“Why, yes, of course, we know exactly what you’ve said is going to happen,” Bachmann replied. “That’s why we need to be on offense.”
“A 26 year old, there’s no reason they can’t buy a health insurance plan for $50 a month,” she added. “People can afford that. And that’s something we can offer if you let people buy into any health insurance plan they want across state lines with no minimum. If you let them pay for it with their own tax-free money and if you have true medical malpractice reform, you can bring down the price for everyone.”
“And you think that will happen this term in Congress?” Ingraham wondered.
“I would be more than happy to push that,” Bachmann insisted.
“But again, we’re dealing with a Harry Reid, a Democratically-controlled Senate,” she said, suggesting that Democrats would be to blame for rising costs if they refused to pass the Republican bill.
“They want nothing to do with freedom. They want nothing to do with bringing down the cost.”
