After pausing Monday night to offer his sympathy to the community of Aurora, following Friday's multiple theater shooting, Stephen Colbert expressed regret on The Colbert Report - that he couldn't join in on the rampant partisan speculation around media circles.
"There was a ton of inaccurate information I did not have a chance to give you," Colbert told his audience. "But I most regret missing out on analyzing all of that no-information."
Like Jon Stewart, Colbert mentioned ABC's Brian Ross' infamous mistaken report linking the suspect, James Eagan Holmes, to the Tea Party. Colbert said he wasn't surprised, after doing some online research of his own on Ross.
"I googled him and apparently 'Brian Ross' was recently arrested for distributing meth while working at a Nebraska Taco Town restaurant," Colbert noted. "The secret code is, 'I'd like a chimichanga with extra meth.'"
He also cited Breitbart.com for an "exclusive" report saying the suspect was a registered Democrat.
"I don't have to tell you what that means," Colbert said. "Which is good, 'cause I don't know what that means."
