Democratic strategist Chris Kofinis on Tuesday compared Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to Sarah Palin, saying the new vice presidential candidate was likely to appeal to conservatives but not independent voters.
"This ticket doesn't make sense," he said on Current TV. "It doesn't makes sense politically... In terms of battleground [states], this does not help them in a single battleground at all -- I mean, at all."
Kofinis acknowledged having Ryan on the ticket might help Romney win Wisconsin, but still doubted it would have much of an effect because Ryan has never run statewide.
"Where it helps him, meaning Romney, is by energizing the conservative base," he explained. "Doesn't that sound eerily familiar to the last election, when McCain was like, 'we need to jazz up the conservative base' and they chose Sarah Palin? When you are 90 days out, and you are worried about jazzing up your base, you have bigger problems than Barack Obama."
