Fox News contributor Dick Morris on Wednesday said that former President Jimmy Carter's scheduled speech at the Democratic National Convention proved that President Barack Obama's party would invite the man whose social theories resulted in the Marxism movement.
Democrats announced on Tuesday that the 39th president of the United States would deliver prime-time speech at the convention by video.
During a Wednesday morning segment, Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy ask Morris if Carter's speaking slot meant that Obama was moving "way to the left."
"The whole purpose of the convention for Obama is to animate his base," Morris explained. "He's basically given up on the swing voters in America and his goal is to get the left-wing base excited and thrilled as they have not been during his presidency. So his endgame now is to try to give them their utopia of what a liberal left-wing presidency would be and Jimmy Carter fits right in."
"If Karl Marx were available, I'd think he'd have a speaking role too," he added.
An ABC News/Washington Post poll released on Wednesday showed that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's favorability rating was 16 points lower than Obama's among all independents.
Morris, originally an adviser to President Clinton and a reputed architect of his triangulation policy that led to policies like Welfare-To-Work, was forced to resign shortly before the 1996 Democratic convention. He had reportedly paid escort Sherry Rowlands to, among other things, suck her toes and allowed her to listen to conversations with the president. He has since reinvented himself as a conservative pundit.
