NBC host David Gregory and NRA leader Wayne LaPierre engaged in a heated debate over gun control Sunday morning on Meet the Press.
The NRA has promised to deliver "major contributions" to stop gun violence following the tragic elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut last week. The pro-gun lobby on Friday said it would continue to oppose any restrictions on guns, but called for armed guards to patrol schools.
"This is a matter of logic, Mr. LaPierre, because anybody watching this is going to say, ‘hey wait a minute, I just heard Mr. LaPierre say that the standard is we should try anything that might reduce the violence,'" Gregory said.
"And you’re telling me that it’s not a matter of common sense that if you don’t have an ability to shoot off 30 rounds without reloading, that just possibly you could reduce the loss of life? Would Adam Lanza have been able to shoot as many kids if he didn’t have as much ammunition?"
But LaPierre denied having a smaller magazine would have changed anything.
“There are so many ways he could have done it,” LaPierre said.
