New Hampshire GOP governor shoots down Trump's presidential hopes after 'mundane' speech
January 29, 2023
Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" the morning after Donald Trump gave a speech in his home state, the Republican governor of New Hampshire dismissed both the former president's remarks and his chances of being the GOP presidential nominee in 2024.
Speaking with host Dana Bash, Gov. Chris Sununu laughed when the CNN host pointed out he didn't make an appearance by Trump's side on Saturday.
Asked about Trump's speech itself, he got right to the point.
"One of the reasons he became the Republican nominee in 2016 is because he won the first primary state, your state of New Hampshire. Could he do that again?" host Bash asked.
"Oh, he could. I don't think he will, but he could," the GOP lawmaker replied. "You know, one thing, obviously, he started his campaign after the election in '22 that obviously had a lot of stumbling blocks that he is trying to overcome."
"He comes to New Hampshire and frankly, he gives a very mundane speech," Sununu continued after smiling. "The response he received is, he read his teleprompter, stuck to the talking points and he went away. So he's not bringing that fire or energy I think that a lot of folks saw in '16, in many ways it was a little disappointing to folks."
"Even he acknowledged it wasn't his best," he added. "He came to a pre-determined crowd not one of his big rallies. I think a lot of folks understand that he's going to be a candidate, but he'll have to earn it. and that's New Hampshire. Even if you're the former president, you have to come to earn it, person-to-person."

'Biden didn't defy a subpoena!' Chuck Todd schools Jim Jordan on 'raid' of Trump's Mar-a-Lago
January 29, 2023
NBC host Chuck Todd confronted Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) after he suggested there is a two-tier justice system for Republicans and Democrats because a search warrant was used to search former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate after he refused to cooperate with the Justice Department.
"You keep talking about this raid on Donald Trump," Todd told Jordan during an interview on Sunday. "There was nine months between the initial action the archives made for a request of documents before they even turned it over to the Justice Department. The subpoena was issued 60 days before they actually executed the subpoena. And more importantly, the only time the public found out about it is because Donald Trump told the public about it."
"It was actually a year and a half of Donald Trump not complying with any of the requests from the National Archives," he noted. "A year and a half! This is not some sort of proof that somehow they've weaponized and are playing politics [at the Justice Department]."

"They raided Trump's home; they haven't raided [President Joe Biden's]," Jordan replied.
"Because Biden didn't defy a subpoena!" Todd shot back.
Jordan argued that Trump's documents were protected by a locked room and the Secret Service while Biden's were not.
"You do not seem to ever see the same conspiratorial problems when it's a Republican," Todd concluded.

Jim Jordan shrugs off Tyre Nichols' death because there's no law 'that can stop that evil'
January 29, 2023
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) suggested that he would not take any action after the death of Tyre Nichols because he said that there is no "law that can stop that evil."
During a Sunday interview on Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd asked Jordan what federal legislation Republicans would consider after five former Memphis police officers were charged with the murder of Nichols.
"Well, I don't know that there's any law that can stop that evil," the lawmaker insisted, calling the video of the killing "difficult to watch."
"What strikes me is just the lack of respect for human life," he continued. "So, I don't know that any law or any training or any reform is going to change. You know, this man is handcuffed; they continued to beat him."

"The fact that we saw that these five individuals did not have any respect for life," Jordan said, "And again, I don't think these five guys represent the vast, vast majority of law enforcement. But I don't know that there's anything you can stop the kind of evil we saw in that video."
The Republican added: "The federal government screws it up so many times."
