Monday night on "The Late Show with David Letterman," host David Letterman welcomed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), and the two had a mostly-friendly back and forth about Letterman's mockery of the governor's weight.
"How do you feel about me?" was Letterman's first question of the interview.
Christie giggled before replying, in mock-solemnity, "I love you, Dave...a love that I have a difficult time really explaining, a deep and abiding love."
"Well, now we have a real problem," Letterman replied. "I have made jokes about you," he said to Christie, who proceded to look bored and munch on a donut.
"I didn't know this was gonna be this long," he said.
Letterman asked, "all kidding aside," whether his jokes at Christie's expense are "an issue or not an issue."
Christie replied that he doesn't mind at all if the jokes are funny. "Form my perspective," he said, "if the joke is funny, I laugh."
"Now, what percentage of the jokes have you found funny?" asked Letterman.
"About 40 percent," said Christie. "Roughly."
"That'll get you in the Hall of Fame," sighed Letterman.
Christie then proceded to read his two favorite Letterman jokes back to the host. First was a quip from his birthday, upon which Letterman remarked that the governor would be blowing out the candles on his cake and wishing for another cake.
Second, was a Super Bowl Sunday joke, when Letterman noted that one billion dollars will be spent on potato chips for Super Bowl Sunday, "and that's just at Gov. Chris Christie's house."
