Donning a Boston Bruins hat and grey sweater in an effort to portray himself as a "hippie 1960s loser," conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck conducted a self-interview on Monday, while also playing an Internal Revenue Service agent named "Ralph."
"Seriously, have you seen what those crazy tea party people are saying," Beck asked "Ralph" in a mock-up of the Oval Office. "I was walking down the hall coming into this room, and I'm watching TV -- where the president gets all of his news -- and this guy on Fox was saying that there are these 'death panels.'"
"Well, there are," said "Ralph," portrayed by Beck with a wig and fake mustache and affected pseudo-European accent.
"Really? There're death panels?" Beck-as-"hippie" asked.
"Yes. In fact, your team is going to be the one putting it all together," the faux agent explained.
In actual fact, the "death panels" claim, popularized by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) in 2009, was debunked by both the Associated Press and FactCheck.org, while PolitiFact called it the "Lie of the Year."
Later, "Ralph" offered up a defense for tea party members.
"You know, I believe the tea party people are very good-hearted people," he told the other Beck. "They just don't know what is in their best interests, or what's good for them -- kind of like what the president said about the jews in Israel. They just don't know what's good for them."
"Right? Right?" Hippie Beck answered. "I do know. I wish it was like those damn jews that the president was talking about. I just wish there was some way to stop them, you know?"
