A 41-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other crimes after police say that he castrated a paraplegic man at an assisted living home in Philadelphia.
Police said that Edgar Bonilla was visiting a female friend at the Inglis Apartments at Elmwood when the incident occurred on Monday.
"It appears as though our victim and the female had some sort of issue that the defendant believed he could handle and settle," Philadelphia Police Southwest Detectives spokesperson John Walker explained to WPVI. "And unfortunately it turned into this horrific event that occurred."
Police alleged that Bonilla pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times before castrating him.
"It's a very shocking crime," Walker said. "And something I haven't seen in my time in law enforcement."
Bonilla was also charged with stealing the victim's medication. He was being held in lieu of $5 million bail.
