Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) on Wednesday lashed out at President Barack Obama for declaring "war on America" by calling for new strategies to limit pollution from coal-fired power pants.
A day after Obama spoke at Georgetown University about his new plan to fight climate change, Manchin took to Fox News to express his unhappiness with the president.
The West Virginia senator said that the plan was not just a "war on jobs" and a "war on West Virginia," but also, a "war on America."
"Eight billion tons of coal is being burned it the world as we speak," he explained. "The United States of American consumes about 1 billion tons. Now, what's going to happen to the over 7 billion tons? What's going to happen to the countries who are consuming and using 7 billion and it's increasing rapidly?"
"By the way, there's no scientific consensus on the degree to which we can stop or slow climate change, no matter what the president says," Fox New host Tucker Carlson opined. "That's ridiculous."
"On a scale of one to ten, how angry are you about this?" co-host Steve Doocy wondered.
"Oh, I don't think you have a scale," Manchin replied. "It's just ridiculous. I should not have to be setting here as a U.S. senator, fighting my own president and fighting my own government. That's ridiculous. I want to work with them, I've reached out. I will continue to reach out, but I need a partner here. I don't need an adversary. I need a partner and an advocate."
