Rep. Peter King: Punish journalists who report classified information

Published

on

Representative Peter King (R-NY) on Tuesday night said that journalists who revealed secret government programs should face criminal charges.

Discussing the recent news about the National Security Agency, CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked the Republican if he believed journalists should be punished for reporting on leaked information.

“Actually, if they willing knew that this was classified information, I think action should be taken, especially on something of this magnitude,” King responded. “I know that the whole issue of leaks has been gone into over the last month. I think something on this magnitude, there is an obligation, both moral but also legal, I believe, against a reporter disclosing something which would so severely compromise national security.”

“As a practical matter, I guess there have been in the past several years, a number of reporters who have been prosecuted under it,” he added. “So the answer is yes to your question.”

In response to WikiLeaks, King proposed legislation in 2010 that would have made publishing classified information “concerning the identity of a classified source or informant of an element of the intelligence community” an act of espionage. The Securing Human Intelligence and Enforcing Lawful Dissemination Act was allowed to die in the House Judiciary Committee.

“These organizations are a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States,” King explained at the time. “Julian Assange and his compatriots are enemies of the US and should be prosecuted under the Espionage Act. This legislation provides the Attorney General with additional authority to do just that.”

Jared Kushner: ‘Complaining’ Black people have to ‘want to be successful’

Published

White House adviser Jared Kushner argued on Monday that the Black community is struggling because they do not "want to be successful."

Kushner made the remarks on Fox & Friends after he was asked about a recent meeting with Ice Cube.

"There's been a lot of discussion about the issues that were needed in the Black community for the last years, particularly it intensified after the George Floyd situation," Kushner explained. "You saw a lot of people who were just virtue signaling, they'd go on Instagram and cry or they would put a slogan on their jersey or write something on a basketball court. And quite frankly, that was doing more to polarize the country than it was to bring people forward."

WATCH: Axios reporter busts Ted Cruz for lying that Trump never made promises on the national debt

Published

In a new interview with Axios reporter Jonathan Swan, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tried to defend President Donald Trump's lack of concern for the national debt — an issue Cruz has spent years claiming was one of the most pressing on Capitol Hill — and almost immediately got caught in a lie.

"[Trump official] Mick Mulvaney had a great quote," said Swan. "He said, you know, 'The deficit's the worst thing in the world when Barack Obama's president, but Donald Trump came in and we're not so worried about that anymore.' He's right, isn't he?"

"So look, I'm very worried about the debt," said Cruz. "And I'm worried about it under Trump. Now, to be fair, Trump didn't campaign on cutting the debt."

Mark Meadows attacks Biden for wearing a mask one day after he said Trump won’t control the pandemic

Published

on

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows on Monday tried to clean up his statement from Sunday in which he admitted the White House isn't even trying to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic -- but he wound up mocking Democratic nominee Joe Biden for wearing a face mask.

While meeting with reporters at the White House, Meadows tried to claim that the Trump administration has not, in fact, surrendered to the virus.

"The only person waving a white flag, as well as a white mask, is Joe Biden," Meadows said. "When we look at this, we're going to defeat the virus, we're not going to control it, we will try to contain it as best we can, if you look at the full context of what I was talking about, is we need to make sure we have therapeutics and vaccines."
