South Africa's first president and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela is on life support and non-responsive, an official tells CNN.
The 94 year old was hospitalized since earlier this month due to a lung infection, and doctors said he's been in critical condition since Sunday.
Hopes were high that Mandela's health would return after he was released from a hospital in April after a 10-day stint caused by a bout with pneumonia.
However, as his latest ordeal appears to be worsening, the government has simply said that Mandela's doctors are trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
Mandela's family has yet to make a statement, but were rumored to be working out the details of his funeral arrangements.
