A Tennessee couple is facing charges after a domestic dispute ended with the death of their 6-month-old daughter.
Witnesses told WBIR that 26-year-old Angela Major and 40-year-old Ken Mason were fighting over a handgun that discharged, sending a bullet into the head of the child who was sitting at their feet at the time. A second round reportedly went through the hand of the father.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office had not released details about where the child was shot or how many bullets were recovered at the scene.
The shooting happened at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday near the 2400 block of Alcoa Highway. The child was later pronounced dead after being transported to Tennessee Medical Center.
"What the hell happened? What were you doing? Why was there a gun anywhere near that child?" Brandy Mecklemore, a friend of the mother, said to WATE. "I would pray to God when I say no [she wouldn't hurt her], that it is the truth."
The Knox County Sheriff's Office said that both parents had an extensive criminal history. Major has past convictions for aggravated burglary and vandalism. Mason had an outstanding warrant for failing to obey a court order.
Major and Mason were each being held in lieu of $1 million bond.
