A Pennsylvania man shot his family on Thursday -- leaving his son and wife in critical condition, and his daughter and dog dead -- before turning the gun on himself.

Allegheny County police homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman said that a 52-year-old Shaler Township man shot his daughter, wife and son each twice, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette. Police responded to 911 calls at around 3:10 a.m. and recovered two handguns that were believed to have been used in the shootings.

The family's dog was also found shot to death at the home.

"The house is neatly kept. It doesn’t look like there was any kind of struggle or anything like that," Schurman told WPXI.

Police said that the man, whose name had not been released, may have recently been disciplined at work.

"We're in the early stages of the investigation in trying to determine what caused this," Schurman explained. "It looks like the children were in their respective rooms. He went from room to room, for lack of a better term, and shot all the people."
