Star Wars Episode 7 may see return of Emperor Palpatine
Evil emperor thought killed in Return of the Jedi due to reappear in forthcoming Star Wars sequel
After the rumblings caused by lack of information at the recent D23 convention, Star Wars fans have seized on a new rumour over the reappearance of Emperor Palpatine in Disney’s forthcoming Episode 7, to be directed by JJ Abrams.
According to the influential blog on the Latino Review, Palpatine is set to return in ghost form in Episode 7, and not as a clone, as had been previously suggested. Writer Kellvin Chavez quotes a “source” as saying: “Palpatine comes back as a Force Ghost … like Obi Wan. (Sith Lords learned similar techniques, which in some cases allowed them to physically interact with their environment.) Palpatine will not be a clone, not in human form.”
Palpatine, who was played by Ian McDiarmid in The Return of the Jedi as well as the three recent Star Wars prequels, was killed by Darth Vader at the climax of Return of the Jedi. Chavez goes on to suggest that an apprentice to the Emperor of the Galactic Empire may be the new villain of Episode 7, and that creating a clone of Palpatine would simply be recycling old ideas. (“Why bring the emperor back to life? That would just be stupid as all hell.”)
