Maddow: Republicans like 'a bag of blindfolded, hungry weasels' on angel dust

On Monday night's edition of "The Rachel Maddow Show," host Rachel Maddow and guest Nicole Wallace took a look at the spreading disaster that is the Republican Party's battle with itself over Obamacare. Maddow opined that the GOP is going at each other like a "bag of blindfolded, hungry weasels" on PCP.

The segment began with the Fox News Channel's Chris Wallace saying on Sunday morning that when word got out that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) would be his guest that other Republicans began to heap opposition research at his feet. Cruz has become so unpopular among members of his own party that they are deliberately trying to sandbag his appearances on the Sunday morning shows.

Maddow asked why this is happening. To her knowledge, she said, Democrats have never done this, set out with the intent to sabotage public appearances by one of their party's rising stars.

"The Republican Party is embarking on another 'Shut down the government!' adventure with the promise that they may also make the country default on its national debt as well, and this is not the first time they've done this," Maddow said. "But it is the first time doing it while also publicly tearing each other apart like they're a bag of blindfolded hungry weasels who someone dosed with PCP."

Republican strategist and McCain-Palin 2008 campaign staffer Nicole Wallace said that the Republicans are chasing a "mirage" in thinking they can in any way keep Obamacare from being implemented.

Wallace referred to the Aaron Sorkin film, "The American President," in which a character played by Michael J. Fox said, "Mr. President, people are so hungry for leadership, they'll crawl through the sand, and when they realize it's a mirage, they will eat the sand."

"Ted Cruz," said Wallace, "would have Republican activists eating sand because what he sold them was a mirage."
