Illinois Republican congressional candidate Ian Bayne sent an email to supporters today in which he declared that embattled Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson is the "Rosa Parks of our generation."
"In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people," he wrote. "[A]nd in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians."
"What Parks did was courageous," wrote Bayne. "What Mr. Roberston did was courageous too."
The 11th Congressional District in Illinois is currently represented by Democrat Bill Foster, and Bayne's chances of winning the Republican primary, much less the election, are considered long. Bayne hopes that his message against those he calls "the central planners" will strike a chord with voters.
In an essay on his campaign site entitled "Why I am Running and The Historic 2013 Election," he compared the work of "the central planners" to "the movie Star Trek, [in which] the Klingon warships could fly around 'cloaked' and invisible to the naked eye, but couldn’t fire upon another warship in this state.
"Government central planners can only talk without revealing their true intentions," he continued, "but to act, much like the Klingon warship, they must reveal who they are."
