Daily Show host Jon Stewart used a barrage of clips of preening lawmakers and posturing politicians to strike back on Tuesday against sexist commentary surrounding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton now that she's about to be a grandmother.
"That's really the lesson we've learned today: In politics, It's OK to be a p*ssy, as long as you've got a d*ck," Stewart said.
Stewart noted that, seemingly from the moment her daughter Chelsea announced her pregnancy, the elder Clinton -- the presumptive favorite for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination -- has been the subject of speculation over whether it would affect her political prospects.
But that kind of discussion, he said, was absent from Republican Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign, despite the fact that Romney's son Tagg had twins at the time.
"He is the only candidate in history whose electoral college total is less than the amount of chairs he has to put out at Thanksgiving," Stewart said of Romney. "My point is, he got crushed in an election by someone who has no grandchildren, yet the grandchildren factor never came up in the race between Obama and Romney."
Similarly, Stewart said, Republicans have taken to portraying Clinton or Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) as "angry" or "emotional" when it suits their purposes, while ignoring crying jags from the likes of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) or House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's (R) public outbursts, such as telling someone at an event, "I'm governor, could you just shut up."
"That's how you handle government business," Stewart said sarcastically. "Calm, cool, collected."
