On Monday night on her MSNBC show, Rachel Maddow discussed the fact that in spite of everything the Republican Party and Fox News had predicted, millions of people are signing up for new health insurance policies under the Affordable Care Act -- also known as "Obamacare."
Maddow played a clip reel of Fox News pundits and guests relentlessly invoking the words "death spiral" to describe Obamacare's prognosis, even as registration numbers have gone higher and higher.
"If there are people in your life who watch Fox News all days long," she said, "you should know that they have had drilled into them over a period of months now these confident, no doubt claims of certainty that Obamacare would die...because Americans would refuse to sign up for health insurance."
The idea, however misguided, has formed the lynchpin of the Republicans' mid-term election strategy. GOP candidates across the country have geared their whole campaigns to the idea that Obamacare is a failure that should be revoked right away.
"That is not how it's turned out," said Maddow.
