A conservative Christian talk show host said on Tuesday that the "ultimate hate speech" would be to treat gay couples equally because it effectively endorses homosexuality, and "trips them into Hell."
Dr. “Chaps” Gordon Klingenschmitt, a disgraced former Navy chaplain, explained that people were being influence by a "four-dimensional" demonic and spiritual realm.
And he said that it was a "demonic spirit" that was controlling the lawmakers who back LGBT rights.
Klingenschmitt went on to praise Colorado Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips for refusing to bake cakes for same-sex couples even after the state's Civil Rights Commission found that he had discriminated against two gay men.
"He is listening to the voice of God who is saying, 'Do not bow your knee to a false god,'" the host said. "Don't endorse their sin. Because, ultimately, that is harmful to them. Right? And Jack Phillips, because he's a man of love, because he's a man of peace, he wants to show compassion. Even to the sinner."
"And by endorsing their sin, he would not be showing compassion to them. He would be showing cruelty," Klingenschmitt argued. "So, the ultimate hate speech is to endorse homosexuality. Because you give them the impression that it's OK."
"And that deceives them, and ultimately trips them into hell."
