Gregory Kent, an 11-year-old boy, is expected to survive and is listed in stable condition after being shot on Thursday while playing with friends in Antioch, California.

The boy's aunt says he was playing with friends outside an apartment complex when he was shot in the chest with a .22 caliber gun.

She said the boy ran inside and told her that he had been shot by a friend, who had run away after the incident. Witnesses said Kent was surprisingly calm after being shot.

"I think everything was just fast for him. I don't think it really hit him until the ambulance came," Kent's cousin Devonne McNab told KTVU.

The boy was airlifted to a hospital in Sacramento.

Neighbors said the shooting was probably an accident.

"Kids can get ahold of guns," Breeanna Harison told ABC7. "And, you know, one thing can lead to another. You know they're showing off, or anything can happen, and then the gun misfires and someone's shot."

Police arrested a 14-year-old male about 11 hours after the shooting, according to the Contra Costa Times. He was charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. His name has not been released.
