Fox News host Steve Doocy asserted on Tuesday that President Barack Obama's administration had fought to make corporations like Hobby Lobby cover contraception for women because it wanted them to provide abortion pills "that end lives."
A message on the president's Twitter account that was posted last week pointed out that "a woman-not her boss-made her own decisions about health care" until the Supreme Court decided that Hobby Lobby did not have to cover certain kinds of birth control.
ABC News suggested that the president's staff had ruined a Twitter tradition called "Throwback Thursday," because tweets marked with that label were not supposed to "address serious issues like women’s rights and religious rights." The faux pas was apparently so offensive that ABC's Jonathan Karl used his question time at a recent White House briefing to ask if the president even knew what was being tweeted on his official Twitter account.
Doocy and his co-hosts on Fox & Friends seemed to agree on Tuesday.
"Keep in mind, the Hobby Lobby thing had nothing to do with banning birth control pills or anything like that, it simply allowed employers who didn't want to pay for drugs that end lives to not have to pay for them," Doocy opined.
"Many times we have found out the president has found out about things in the news from watching the news," he added. "Now, he's finding out what's one his Twitter from the news."
A 2012 New York Times examination of the science behind emergency contraception found that so-called morning-after pills "would not meet abortion opponents’ definition of abortion-inducing drugs."
