A Minnesota minor league baseball team took a light-hearted approach to critics on Twitter over the weekend during its third-annual "Atheist Night."
Since 2012, the St. Paul Saints have become the "Mr. Paul Aints" for one night each season. The event is sponsored by the MN Atheists and Freedom From Religion Foundation.
But when the team announced on Twitter that the "Aints" were taking the field for the "Atheist Game," some fans evidently were not too happy.
"Those of you upset about tonight's promo don't worry the Baseball God's have punished us on this night 0-2 since we started the promo in '12," the team joked in a follow up tweet.
"More exciting for some of you tonight, whether we win or lose or whether we're punished & ballpark goes up in flames," another message quipped.
"Are we allowed to pray to Jobu on this night? Whatever. Down 1-0 after solo homer by Kuzdale go to bottom 3," one tweet noted.
But the team didn't need faith as it turns out, and pulled out a win 3-2.
The Aints Atheist Night made news in 2012 when Fox News recommended that viewers should "pray for rain."
