A legally blind man in Tampa said that he didn't know he was shooting his nephew when he heard someone breaking in on Monday, but he doesn't regret it.
Melchisedec “Mya” Williams told WTVT that he grabbed his gun when he heard a noise sometime before 2 a.m.
"I couldn't see anything; I just heard a lot of crashing," Williams explained. "So when I came out to investigate, I saw a light coming towards me, and then that's when I had my gun and I shot."
The sounds of a teen groaning made the homeowner realize that he had shot his own nephew, who had reportedly grabbed two knives after breaking in.
“I guess he was coming to do me bodily harm,” Williams insisted. "It was really frightening, because after all I did for him, I wouldn't have expected it to be him."
The teen was able to flee through a window, but officers eventually caught up with him. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was said to be in critical condition.
