Bill Maher: Lindsey Graham and John McCain should ‘get a grip’ about ISIS
Real Time host Bill Maher ripped GOP Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain on Friday for contributing to the U.S. being “so f*cking easy” to bait into another armed conflict in the Middle East, this time against the Islamic State (ISIS) extremist group.
“Get a grip,” he said. “Would we be this terrified if ISIS didn’t make videos, wear black, and have a scary name? ‘ISIS.’ Sounds like they should be fighting the X-Men.”
Maher mocked Graham — who he called “the Senate’s own Blanche Dubois” — for saying last week that, if the U.S. did not commit ground troops to fight against ISIS, Americans would “all get killed back here.”
“He actually said that,” Maher said. “And then collapsed onto his fainting couch.”
Together, he argued, Graham and McCain were “like the Ghost and Mr. Chicken,” with Graham in the Don Knotts role.
“When there’s lightning, McCain has to let Graham sleep in the bed and sing to him the ‘raindrops on roses’ song,” Maher said.
Maher added that he admired the courage of journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, who were both captured and beheaded by ISIS while working in the region, but emphasized that doing so was a choice both men made.
“When you live among cutthroats, you might get your throat cut,” he said. “Do Americans living here really think they’re gonna be next?”
The terrorist group’s name, Maher said, was “simultaneously cool-sounding and stands for core evil — like Monsanto.”
Maher then explained to his audience that one ingredient in Monsanto’s “Roundup” herbicide was polyethoxylated tallowamine, which has been found to be “toxic to human health.”
“Folks, ISIS isn’t going to kill you,” he said. “Things like polyethoxylated tallowamine — that’s what’s going to kill you.”
