Singer CeeLo Green has apologized after writing on Twitter that rape was only possible when the victim was conscious to remember the crime.

Last week, Green was sentenced to three years of probation on drug charges after he was accused of secretly slipping the drug ecstasy into a 33-year-old woman's drink.

Following the sentencing, the singer took to Twitter to defend himself.

"People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!" he wrote, according to Billboard.

"If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent," a second tweet added.

Green, who is known for songs like "Fuck You," later deleted his Twitter account, saying that he would "not allow that negative energy to loiter on my time line u still got it so keep it! I'm deleting this too."

But by Monday, Green's Twitter account was back online.

"Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context," he wrote.

"I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it," Green continued. "...was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I'd never condone the harm of any women. Thank you."
