Author and cosmologist Stephen Hawking addressed the more than 1 million fans of his Facebook page on Friday, Mashable reported.
“I have always wondered what makes the universe exist. Time and space may forever be a mystery, but that has not stopped my pursuit,” Hawking’s post read. “Our connections to one another have grown infinitely and now that I have the chance, I’m eager to share this journey with you. Be curious, I know I will forever be.”
Hawking’s page shows that it was created on Oct. 7, but the account did not feature any content until Friday. Like many Facebook users, though, he posted a video of he and his family taking the “Ice Bucket Challenge” for the United Kingdom-based Motor Neurone Disease Association this past August.
“Because I had pneumonia last year, it would not be wise for me to have a blanket of cold water poured over me,” he says in the clip. “But my children, Robert, Lucy, and Tim gallantly volunteered to take the challenge for me.”
According to Mashable, the makers of The Theory Of Everything, a new film dramatization of Hawking’s life, said he watched the film in a private screening and called it “broadly true” with a tear in his eye.
