A Missouri man was in custody on Monday after allegedly shooting a woman with her own gun during a domestic dispute.

According to Paris police, the 42-year-old man went to the woman's house and demanded to see his children. The woman reportedly had legal custody of her children, but her relationship to the man was not immediately available.

After the victim denied the suspect access to the children, police said that he kicked in the door and then assaulted her.

The woman retrieved her firearm, but missed when she shot at the suspect. The man left the home. However, he returned and shot her with her own gun. The bullet struck her in the arm, reports said.

The man was later found on St. Louis Avenue, where he was taken into custody by police. The victim was transported to a local hospital. She was said to be in stable condition.
