WHOA!: Tampa tornado bursts open tractor trailer on ‘Sunshine Skyway’ bridge
On Sunday, a postal service tractor-trailer was slammed by a waterspout that formed over Tampa Bay at the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, sending debris flying.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the truck’s driver — Randall J. Leaver, 56 — emerged unscathed, but the vehicle was badly damaged.
“Leaver had been driving north on I-275 about 9:45 a.m. when the tornado struck,” said the Times.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that as the funnel cloud crossed the highway, it lifted the truck and knocked it on its side. Then, the wind lifted the truck again and returned to its upright position before bursting open the cargo hold and scattering debris across all four lanes of the Interstate.
